India and both US coasts team clock

India with both American coasts — Kolkata, New York and Los Angeles — on one live timeline, with hour-by-hour tables of who is at work when, and an honest look at how little of it overlaps.

Opens with Kolkata (IST) as the home city and New York (EST), Los Angeles (PST) beside it. Drag the timeline to any hour to convert it; add your own city with the search box. Nothing is sent to a server.

night · dawn · morning · midday · afternoon · dusk — click a city for the big clock, drag a band to travel through the day

    When is everyone in?

The tables below assume a nine-to-six day in each city and count, for every hour of Kolkata's day, how many of the 3 offices are inside theirs. That is an assumption, printed so you can see it — not a recommendation, because nothing here knows anyone's real hours. There is one table per arrangement of the clocks, because 2 different arrangements occur during 2026.

Shaded cells are inside that city's nine-to-six; a highlighted row has every office in. For a different working day or another city, use the timeline above — the daylight colour on each band is the same question answered by the sun.

Working across Kolkata, New York, Los Angeles

This is the footprint that gives offshore delivery its reputation for late nights, and the tables below show why without editorialising. New York's working day begins at 6:30pm or 7:30pm in India; Los Angeles's begins at 9:30pm or 10:30pm. Within a nine-to-six day in each city there is no hour at which India and either coast are both at work, and no hour at which all three are. The overlap that does exist is between the two American coasts — New York's afternoon and Los Angeles's morning — and India is not in it.

What teams on this footprint actually do is choose a coast. An Indian team paired with New York shifts its day later — 11am to 8pm is common — and gets New York's first two hours; one paired with Los Angeles either runs a genuine evening shift or accepts that its contact with the West Coast is asynchronous with one live call a week. The timeline above shows the daylight in each city for any hour you drag to, which is a more persuasive argument about who is being asked to work in the dark than any table.

Both American cities change their clocks on the same two Sundays — the second in March and the first in November — so the two coasts stay exactly three hours apart and the whole picture has only two arrangements a year, both printed below. India never changes. Everything fixed in American time moves by an hour for India twice a year, in the same direction on both coasts at once, which at least keeps the relay simple.

The date line runs through the middle of this footprint's working day. A New York Friday evening is Saturday morning in India; a Los Angeles Friday evening is Saturday lunchtime in India; a Monday 9am in Bengaluru is Sunday night on both coasts. Deadlines and release windows on this footprint should always carry a city, and the tables mark the day change on every row where it happens.

The cities stand for their zones. Boston, Washington, Atlanta, Miami and Toronto share New York's clock; Seattle, San Francisco, San Diego and Las Vegas share Los Angeles's; Chicago, Dallas and Denver sit between them, an hour and two hours behind New York. Phoenix does not observe daylight saving and is an hour out from Los Angeles for four months of the year. Add the exact city in the tool above if the office is somewhere in the middle.

    Frequently asked questions

Is there any overlap between Indian and US working hours?
Not within a nine-to-six day on both sides. New York's day starts at 6:30pm or 7:30pm India time and Los Angeles's at 9:30pm or 10:30pm. Teams on this footprint shift the Indian day later or run an evening shift; the tables above show exactly what each hour costs.
What time is it in India when it is 9am in New York and Los Angeles?
9am in New York is 7:30pm in India during Eastern Standard Time and 6:30pm during Eastern Daylight Time. 9am in Los Angeles is 10:30pm during Pacific Standard Time and 9:30pm during Pacific Daylight Time.
Do both US coasts change their clocks on the same day?
Yes. The whole of the United States that observes daylight saving changes on the second Sunday in March and the first Sunday in November, so New York and Los Angeles stay three hours apart all year and India's gap to both moves by an hour on the same day.
